Signed letter, (16 Sept. 1862), from Nichols to his wife, describing his company's participation in the Battle of South Mountain, Md., and of the losses on both sides; and signed letter (17 May 1863), from Nichols to his wife, relating to the role his regiment played at the Battle of Chancellorsville, his bad health, his impressions of the regard in which the Vermont brigade is held, and includes a small hand-drawn map showing his brigade and its position.
